Keep a copy of this guidance
Download a print-friendly PDF to use while preparing your artwork.
Example: a 3,000-pixel-wide original placed 10 inches wide gives 300 PPI. Placing it twice as wide gives 150 PPI. Viewing distance and subject still matter.
Work through the job in four steps
Find the original
Use the camera or design source file rather than a screenshot or image lifted from a website.
Check effective resolution
Scaling an image up in a layout reduces its effective pixels per inch. For many close-view print jobs, 300 PPI is a useful starting point.
Match viewing distance
Large displays may work at lower effective resolution because they are viewed from farther away. Ask for the viewing-distance specification.
Inspect the final PDF
Zoom to realistic viewing size and look for artefacts, sharpening halos and tiny text baked into images.
Changing the PPI label without adding real image data does not create detail.
Before you send the file
Check the exact specification with The Print Centre Warrington before final export. Bleed, resolution, colour setup, imposition and finishing allowances depend on the product and production route. Approve the final file and content yourself.
