Choose the right specification
Turn a short story into a portable guide with a fold that supports the reading order.
- Choose a half fold, roll fold or Z fold based on panel order and available content.
- Panel widths can differ for a roll fold; request the flat template before final artwork.
- Allow for stock thickness if the folded piece must sit flat or fit a mailing envelope.
Planning example: a six-panel route
A simple sequence is cover promise, problem, options, proof, practical details and action. Build a paper dummy before designing the PDF. Turning a physical mock-up often reveals that a panel intended as the back is actually the first one readers open.
What to send for a useful quote
Tell us folded size, flat size if known, panel count, quantity, stock, fold type and whether it will be mailed.
Number the panels on a low-resolution mock-up first; then send the print PDF with the correct outside and inside spreads.
A question we hear
Why are fold panels not always equal?
An inside panel can need to be slightly narrower to tuck in neatly. Confirm the exact template for your stock and fold.
Plan the file and approval
Before we produce the job, check the final PDF for the exact wording, dates, contact details, size and page or panel order. Confirm any unusual stock, mounting or finishing with the team. A physical sample can be useful where fit, colour or feel matters.
